I'm Moving
Today. To a house in the south of the city.
My roommates basically bought this house and so are moving into it. It’s great, because I will get to enjoy such amenities as a closet, a patio and a functional kitchen light.
However, I will no longer be living in the center-ish of this rather large city, but more an hour outside of the center. You win some, you lose some.

Spanish Alphabet Jokes
Should I someday found a western themed Spanish-language immersion camp, I’m naming it “Rolling R Ranch.”
If I ever start a cover band that specializes in doing Spanish versions of popular new age musicians, it will be named “Ñ”.

Awkward things I experienced today
Man wearing a sequined fishnet unitard
Giving a hug while holding an umbrella
Wearing a breathing mask with a beard
Attempting to differentiate between saying “This way” and “That way”
Being stood up at the ballet by a 70-year old man

Novel Writing
Two (or was it three?) years ago I heard that November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). The first year I thought it was a pipe dream for people with no life or too much talent. The second year I thought I might try it, but it turned out I was too busy with student newspaper-ing. This year I find myself with much time on my hands, a computer at my fingertips and a creative writing in my...

Reader Sumbitted Question
Can you talk about your observations of religion in an upcoming blog?
I am not sure I am in a place to make any real statements about the state of religion in Mexico City, but I can make some observations and relate some second-hand information.
No matter the weather, people do not often, if ever, where shorts in Mexico City. I am told this is because shorts are too revealing for the...

If you have any friends who are editors at a newspaper, magazine or publication of interest, do not hesitate to direct them to this website. My website.
I put this together a couple weeks ago, and have been fine-tuning it since then. I feel it is now ready for partial release. In a week or so I will begin adding it to my digital profiles and going big with a tweet announcement. If you...

Snake Babies.
Yes, that is what I said Snake Babies. What are Snake Babies, you ask? Why, they’re only the rockingest band to rock in San Diego at the moment. I say this because ever since my friend Jason (the drummer) posted songs from the Babies last recording session, I have not been able to get enough serpentine infant music. I seriously have to go to their myspace page once a day just to get my...

One Month
I have been in Mexico City one month today. It’s been a good ride so far. My Spanish is still less than elementary, but I have been paid and am working a respectable amount. I have begun to make new friends and been finding the little things about Mexico that I love.

I have a friend—named Thomas—who I met through my roommates. Thomas moved to Mexico City just over two months ago for much the same reason I did and works at the same company I do. However his real passion is music, which he writes and performs often. Yesterday Thomas invited me to hang out with some Mexican friends he has made in his time here. That was all he or I were told.
As it turned out,...

Casa Azúl, the house of Frida
It is a large, but not too large vibrantly blue building. The front doors open into a sizable courtyard with ample tree covering while the rooms that make up the estate line the rim of this yard.
The first rooms are white-walled and high-ceilinged, filled with paintings by the legacy. Many of the paintings are recognizable, familiar. Some are unfinished, only beginning to show the strong lines...

Starting Today
I’m going to take a photo, once a day, for an entire year.
This is something I had been thinking of doing for awhile. I mentioned it to a few people before I left the States and then forgot about in the rush of Mexican stimuli. But I have remembered (or more accurately was reminded) and have already embarked upon this project.
The purpose is multifaceted:
Increase my awareness of the...
